Why does entering a VAT ID affect my e-invoice?
Why does entering a VAT ID affect my e-invoice?
If a customer enters a valid VAT ID at checkout, FastSpring automatically exempts them from paying VAT. This is because the buyer takes responsibility for handling VAT on their end.
- If the VAT ID is missing or invalid, VAT is charged, as the buyer is assumed to be an end consumer.
- A VAT ID doesn’t mean a business has to pay tax upfront—it means they are recognized as a taxable entity that handles VAT differently.
- Since FastSpring does not charge VAT when a valid VAT ID is provided, an e-invoice is not issued, as there is no tax amount to report.
What if I left the Tax ID field blank?
- If you did not enter a Tax ID, FastSpring assumes you are an individual consumer, and VAT is charged accordingly.
Where can I get further assistance?
